KING’S CUP GRAVEL
2024 Event Cancelled due to Forestry England fee demands.
British Gravel Championships relocated to Scotland.
We must share some significant updates regarding the British Gravel Championships and the King's Cup Gravel Festival, which were scheduled for this September.
The 2024 British Gravel Championships have been relocated to Gatehouse of Fleet, Scotland and will now take place on Saturday, 31 August 2024.
Cancellation of King’s Cup: This difficult decision comes as we have been forced to cancel King’s Cup Gravel Festival (the original host of the event) due to Forestry England imposing unacceptably high venue fees, pushing towards 20% of event revenue, which is a substantial increase from past years. Despite previous negotiations and our past success in securing fair terms, the latest demands presented to us just recently, present an existential threat for the event. This fee structure not only challenges our ability to deliver the high-standard experience you expect but also shows a lack of consideration for the increasing costs in the events industry and the broader economic pressures all of us are facing.
Relocation of British Gravel Championships: We are thrilled (and relieved) that the British Gravel Championships will continue! The 2024 Championships will take place in the majestic Galloway Forest Park, Scotland, as part of the Raiders Gravel event on Saturday, 31 August 2024. This relocation ensures that our community will still have the opportunity to compete and crown the season's champions. Whilst plans for a new 2025 venue are already at an advanced stage (but not yet ready to unveil), we needed to be pragmatic to find an interim solution and ensure a 2024 event could still take place. We recognise the change of date and venue may be a challenge for some of our competitors, but hope you can work with us on this and appreciate the challenge in securing a new venue at such short notice in the face of the adversity brought about by Forestry England.
Refunds and Options: All British Gravel Championship race entries will remain valid and riders will have the option to roll existing entries over into the new event. Equally for the competitors who are unable to take advantage of the revised event (or those with other King’s Cup entries - Night Ride. Gravel Sportive and Gravel Enduro), can claim a full refund of entry fees and optional extras.
All riders will be contacted by email to outline the process for all options outlined above. Any queries should be directed to enquiries@kingscupgravel.com.
