Another year and another King’s Cup.

Once again Wideham Farm’s huge paddock was transformed into a brilliant sporting event. Nearest the wood was the event village, 20 brands exhibiting their products, food and coffee too.

There were plenty of tents and camper vans, glamping too. Two big inflatable arches, one from our bike partner Canyon, and one over the finish line for the second British Gravel Championships. Oh, and miles of barriers, the end of the race route where we crowned two new champions after some stunning and exciting racing.

Danni Shorsbree (CAMS-Basso) took the women’s title after finishing a close second to South African Tiffany Keep (LDN-Brother) who won the women’s Senior race.

Jacob Vaughan (Saint Piran) used his experience and guile to win the men’s race, positioning himself perfectly in the closing 500m to win a sprint from a group of nine men.

In the Junior races the JRC-Interflon team swept the board. Emma Jeffers claimed the women’s title and finishing in the top 15 of a stacked women’s race, while Dylan Humber-Kelly took the men’s honours, dominating the competition.

Saturday’s Night Ride saw the lights of more than a hundred bikes bike twinkling through King’s Forest before the event village came alive with music and food greeting happy faces.

The final day of the 2022 event brought beautiful early autumn weather, a golden sun accompanying a nagging wind as several hundred riders took to the tracks of the King’s Forest for our 40 and 100km sportives.

Thanks to all who came out and made the King’s Cup Gravel Festival the wonderful weekend it was.
